Why are bunnies heart healing?
Our family journey has had a lot of ups and downs, twists and turns in the last years. Although our life is very blessed and have had so many wonderful things happen to us, we have also had to learn ways to cope with uncertainty, loss, fear, anxiety, sadness, and other very big emotions. This is primarily the reason I am so passionate about therapy animals. Animals can be heart healing in so many ways. We have had dogs, cats, chickens, and bunnies as therapy pets in our journey to emotional healing and growth. And we would love to share it with you!

The "calm" response
Soft touch, gentle movements, and quiet companionship can trigger the "calm" response in humans. Petting a bunny can lower heart rate and reduce stress hormones like cortisol.

Mindfulness
Bunnies are subtle communicators. Watching your bunny nibble their food slowly, groom themselves, flop contentedly pulls your attention into the present moment, similar to mindfulness or meditation practices. Their quiet energy makes them especially therapeutic for people who feel overwhelmed by noise or constant stimulation.

Gentle routine and purpose
Caring for your bunny involves predictable routines (feeding, cleaning, observing health). This sense of responsibility can provide structure for adults and children, reinforce the feeling of usefulness, gently anchor someone during emotionally difficult periods, offer distractions from negative thoughts.

Nonjudgmental compainionship
Bunnies do not demand verbal interaction or emotional performance. Their presence offers quiet, nonjudgmental comfort, which can be especially soothing for people dealing with anxiety, burnout, or grief.

Oxytocin Release
Physical interaction with bunnies can increase oxytocin, the bonding hormone linked to feelings of safety, trust, and connection. Even simply sitting near a bunny can have this effect.

Increase empathy
Bunnies are prey animals. They are small, cautious, and sensitive. Humans often respond to this with protective, nurturing feelings, which can soften emotional tension and increase empathy.
